What can Occupational Therapists help with?

Occupational Therapist support children, their families and educators to help a child attain success in the occupations of childhood. This typically refers to play, learning and socialising.

More specifically, Occupational Therapists may:
  • Help children to stay on track with developmental milestones.
This might include motor skills which support:
                             - Self care (dressing, feeding, managing the toilet)
                             - Play and manipulation of toys
                             - Functional school tasks such as cutting and writing
  • Help children develop skills relating to positive behaviours including self regulation.
They may assist in supporting children who have sensory processing challenges
which impact upon their life skills and energy levels.
  • Support and educate parents and carers to ensure a collaborative approach.
There are several funding options available to assist with your child's therapy - click on the link to the right to find out more.

Assessments

A formal assessment can provide a picture of the child's current skills and abilities and provide a baseline from which to ascertain change and development.  They can be helpful to provide information when communicating with other professionals including doctors and educators.
Individual or group follow up

Whether your child is part of a small group or participates in individual sessions, we aim to make them fun and engaging while focusing upon the development of targeted skills
Information and support
